BFAS offers world-class music and dance in an annual season of performances, all for free. Classical to contemporary, jazz to world music and dance, and traditional to avant-garde, BFAS programs are annually featured on APM’s “Performance Today” for NPR. Dynamic visual art is also presented at concerts and receptions.
Each concert artist performs at an educational outreach for children in area schools. Programs are open to all schools though we target schools whose funding has limited the arts exposure all children should have, but many do not. We pay for bus transportation to and from the programs where children are entertained and have an opportunity to ask questions of the artists.
BFAS relies on the corporate support of many fine local and national businesses strongly committed to our mission. As additional funding, BFAS established the Beaches Fine Arts Sprint Triathlons (BFAST) in 1986 to raise funds for the free music series and educational outreach programs. The races still continue to this day and are supported by wonderful volunteers and sponsors. Local civic organizations serve as community hosts and supply volunteers and food offerings for our post-concert receptions.
To promote and enhance the cultural life of all of the people of Florida’s First Coast by presenting an annual series of outstanding musical, theatrical and dance performances and exhibits of visual art, by supporting educational outreach activities that encourage participation in, and appreciation of, the fine arts and by nurturing emerging artists.
Recognizing that the arts and culture are among our most vital tools for bringing diverse people together, BFAS seeks to enhance the dimensions of diversity, which include ethnicity, race, age, gender, disability, religion, sexual orientation, marital status, socio-economic considerations and geographic location, throughout all aspects of governance, programming and outreach.
