TereseMarie Miller :: Exhibiting Sunday, September 14, 2008

As an artist I am constantly striving for peace and harmony through my art. This goes hand in hand with my spiritual goals. I seek a balance in values and color that is as pleasing as nature itself. My medium is acrylic, inks, charcoal, collage and found objects on wood, paper and canvas from landscapes to figures in a realistic to non-objective style.

Tim Bullard :: Exhibiting Sunday, December 14, 2008

Being an artist was never a choice for Tim Bullard. From a very early age he began drawing obsessively and creating in many media. At 15 years of age his parents allowed him to create a photographic darkroom in their family home. This led to working as a photographer for local studios in his late teens/early 20's. In the mid 1970's while studying printmaking with Mark Howard, Tim began working in clay and as a teaching assistant for Ron Wetherell. Clay became his main medium, experimenting with diverse techniques in porcelain, stoneware and Raku. This led to working with Mandarin potter Charlie Brown who became both a mentor and a great inspiration for Tim.

Arrowmont School of Crafts in the Tennessee Mountains provided the next step in his studies with teachers such as Tom Turner and Victor Spensky. In 1979 upon returning to Jacksonville he opened Tim Bullard's Pottery/Art Gallery/Teaching Studio in the Five Points area (and later at Park and King in Riverside).

In 1985 Tim was commissioned be the city of Jacksonville to create and reproduce Architectural Ornamental Sculpture for the Prime Osborn Convention Center. This was a huge job and somewhat of a career change for Tim who took on several other Architectural projects in the Jacksonville area. At this point Tim refocused back to his own work, utilizing many of the sculpture techniques he had perfected. Creating larger mixed media sculpture and pottery, Tim began incorporating his drawing and printmaking ideas into this new work. Concentrating on Art Shows and Gallery Exhibitions, his new work began to win numerous awards, both regional and nationally. Tim Bullard-a mixed media one man show at FCCJ Kent Campus Gallery featured new Raku, illustrated porcelain and assemblages. Tim's work is included in collections throughout the US, Mexico and England.

Most recently Tim's work was featured in First Coast Portfolio :A Juried Art Educator's Exhibition at MOCA/JAX, won Best in Show at the Mandarin Art Festival and First Place Pottery at the St Augustine Spring Art Festival. Tim teaches pottery and drawing at the JCA (8505 San Jose Blvd) and for Artlife Productions Inc.

Joanelle Mulrain:: Exhibiting Sunday, January 18, 2009

Joanelle Mulrain grew up on the St. Johns River in Jacksonville, Florida. Graduating with a BFA with a minor in ceramics, she followed a penchant for archaeology and ancient history with further study of the Mayan culture in-depth throughout Mexico. Recently her love of art and nature’s seasons flourished while living for nearly three years in Washington, DC.

Her digital photo of “Big Blue,” a wild great blue heron sitting on a cypress tree limb surrounded by a million cattails at Lake Beluthahatchee sparked a new career. These dual images – the heron and cattails – inspired her and, subsequently, became her logo and signature image for Great Blue Heron Studios. Frequently, she paddles her blue kayak deep into the St. Johns’ swamps and tributaries amid the tall, fluid and elegant cattail stalks as they move in unison with the wind, their rhizome roots connected underwater in a whirlwind of tangles.

Light, air and water are central themes in her work. Water-level portraits in acrylic as well as digital photography feature birds and nature, raw and alive. Frequently. Her cattail paintings secretly envelope hidden archaic images and symbols mystically surprising the eye when found within a fold of the long, thin leaves and jutting cattail flowers. These peaceful vistas are embellished with a broad palette of brilliant colors offering a whimsical presentation of bold brushstrokes. A radiance of color bursts forth in a spiritual, calming manner. Her commune with nature is evident as she asks the viewer to participate with her in this journey through nature on canvas and paper as she shares her deep understanding of the importance of sustaining our ecosystems and protecting and preserving our natural environment for generations to come.

In 2007, a new cultural focus spotlights a photography suite on the little monks of the Kingdom of Bhutan. She authored her first signed and limited edition book in a series of 12, “Re-Rooting: Life’s Journey,” which is now part of Private Collections, Carpenter Library, University of North Florida. Subsequently, she has begun community seminars on “Re-Rooting,” and is available for ARTtalks as well as community presentations.
